TAIPEI (TVBS News) — After a two-year slump, the smartphone market is poised for growth in 2024, according to Rick Tsai, chairman of global chip leader MediaTek Inc., in an interview in late November.
Tsai explained that the rise of AI applications is stimulating a replacement trend for mobile phones and PCs, boosting the demand for more devices.
Under Tsai's leadership, MediaTek has launched several cutting-edge products, including its flagship 5G chip, Tianji 9300, which supports generative AI applications.
Qualcomm, another leading chip company, shares the booming AI trends. The firm recently rolled out its latest 5G handset chip, Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, highlighting AI support that offers new experiences for users.
Furthermore, Qualcomm predicts an impending wave of AI smartphone upgrades.
A surge in penetration for AI phones, backed by enhanced computing power facilitating more applications, is predicted, said Tsai.
