NEW TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Chang Ming-wen, the director of the New Taipei City Education Bureau, altered his plans on Tuesday (Dec. 26), to visit a middle school student at Far Eastern Memorial Hospital following a grisly attack.

The student, from a junior high school in Tucheng District, New Taipei City, is in intensive care battling serious injuries sustained from a throat-slashing incident on campus.

The conflict began when a male junior high school student, identified only as "A", confronted a female student during lunchtime.

She, along with another male student, "B," verbally and physically assaulted the student. "B" used a folding knife to inflict multiple wounds on "A," targeting the chest and neck area, causing severe blood loss and cardiac arrest.

The school principal indicated the altercation stemmed from discontentment with noise during lunch break.

Police are now probing whether the fight's roots can be traced to previous tensions between "A" and the female student.

The Education Bureau stated that the victim's recovery has been prioritized with full medical assistance. The school and the bureau have extended necessary support to his family.

Immediately following the incident, the bureau dispatched supervisors, social workers, and psychologists to the school for assistance. Preliminary counseling has been provided to involved students and classes.

The bureau has asked for the school to intensify its attention towards the affected students but also enhance overall campus security to ensure the students' physical and psychological safety. Officials reiterated the necessity for such safeguards against incidents that disrupt the learning environment.
