NEW TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Jaw Shaw-kong, the vice-presidential candidate of Kuomintang (KMT), made another verbal gaffe during a campaign event in New Taipei City on Monday (Dec. 25), mistakenly referring to the election day on Jan. 13 as 'Jan. 15.'

Realizing his error, Jaw quickly corrected himself, saying triumphantly, 'We'll be a president-elect on Jan. 15 next year,' which was greeted with enthusiastic applause from supporters.

This wasn't Jaw's first recent mistake. He has been prone to slips of the tongue lately, including during the Central Election Committee (CEC) policy presentation on Dec. 22, when he said, 'Lai Ching-te will definitely make the best future president,' calling out the candidate of the rival Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) instead of his own party presidential hopeful Hou Yu-ih.

At a Taichung campaign event on Dec. 23, in an even more startling misstep, he referred to former KMT chairman Johnny Chiang as a 'terrorist of peace for Taiwan,' which was supposed to refer to DPP presidential candidate Lai Ching-te.

During Monday's event, Jaw noted that when the KMT was in power, the DPP had advocated for a change in personnel and party. Hence, he argued that this belief could be applied to the current situation, criticizing DPP's poor governance record over the last eight years and calling for a change in leadership.
