TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Meteorologist Lin Te-en said Thursday (May 2) that due to the influence of the northeast monsoon and the passing of the first wave of the plum rain front, temperatures in northern Taiwan have slightly dropped, with rainfall reported in various places. He predicted a week of high humidity.

In an analysis on his Facebook page, Lin identified two weather patterns for May 2: localized areas turning slightly cooler, with noticeable temperature drops in the north and northeast, ranging from 21 to 25 degrees Celsius. Other areas experienced high temperatures of 30 to 32 degrees. He also noted larger temperature differences between day and night.

Lin said that due to the high humidity during the day, there is a likelihood of thunderstorms and short, intense rainfall in areas north of central Taiwan, the northeast, the east, as well as Penghu and Kinmen County. Other areas, including Matsu, also have a chance of rain, but it will be less intense and short-lived, easing and stopping by evening.

The Central Weather Administration (CWA) earlier issued a heavy rain warning, stating that due to the passing front, Taichung City and Nantou County might experience localized heavy rain. Residents were advised to be cautious of landslides, falling rocks, and mudslides. However, as the rain has eased, the likelihood of heavy rain has decreased, and the warning has been lifted.

The CWA added that there is a chance of rain in all areas today. Apart from areas north of central Taiwan and Yilan and Hualien County, other areas will have more rain-free periods and the rain will be lighter. Residents are advised to carry rain gear when going out.
