TAOYUAN (TVBS News) — A significant power outage struck Luzhu District (蘆竹區) in Taoyuan (桃園) Tuesday (May 7) early afternoon, affecting 11,545 households, including those in Yingpan Village and Wayao Village.

The power outage occurred just hours after Taiwan Power Company (台電, Taipower) announced a special inspection project and a cross-district support plan to strengthen power lines and vulnerable equipment inspection.

Taipower's preliminary investigation revealed that the outage was caused by a civilian crane damaging a 69KV transmission line, leading to a complete shutdown of the Nanlin Second Substation.

The crane involved was not contracted by Taipower, and power was fully restored to all 10 affected feeders by 2:22 p.m. Repair efforts are currently underway to prevent future incidents.

On Monday, Taoyuan's Deputy Mayor Su Jun-pin (蘇俊賓) highlighted the increasing frequency of power outages in the city, with 171 occurrences in the past six months, averaging nearly one outage per day.

The situation has worsened in the last half-month, with 20 outages recorded, sparking widespread public dissatisfaction.
