TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Digital Affairs Minister Audrey Tang attended the "AI Expo for National Competitiveness" virtually on Tuesday night (May 7), an event hosted by the U.S.-based Special Competitive Studies Project (SCSP). Tang shared Taiwan's experience in building a trustworthy AI and digital environment with digital leaders from Singapore and the Philippines.

The expo, organized by SCSP for the first time, invited key opinion leaders from government, business, and academia to discuss how AI can enhance competitiveness and manage risks associated with emerging technologies.

Tang emphasized that the origin and critical foundation of AI come from data. The Ministry of Digital Affairs is highly concerned with how to formulate measures for the open use and management of AI, ensuring a balance between the risk of AI infringing on personal privacy or sensitive information and the diverse development of data innovation.

Taiwan has collaborated with the Collective Intelligence Project (CIP) to promote trustworthy AI, using AI to enhance government services and diverse innovation, strengthen collective intelligence, and assist in mutual understanding and joint response to challenges.

The Ministry of Digital Affairs has established an AI evaluation center, inviting citizens to discuss topics such as information integrity, promoting public participation in discussing the direction of AI development, and developing trustworthy AI tools.

The Ministry has also promoted a public code policy, releasing non-sensitive government systems or software codes to the public. This open, shared use and modification feedback enhances the transparency of government code and promotes the quality and development efficiency of cross-departmental digital technology services.

The Taiwan Public Code Platform was officially launched by the Ministry in April.
