KAOHSIUNG (TVBS News) — The Kaohsiung City government announced Monday (May 13) that the Kaohsiung French Festival will be held at The Pier-2 Art Center from June 7 to June 9.

The festival will feature a French-themed market, stage performances, cultural lectures, and outdoor movies. It is a significant symbol of the deepening cultural ties between Taiwan and France and aims to foster more interaction between French cities and Kaohsiung.

According to Mayor Chen Chi-Mai, the French Festival significantly represents the ongoing cultural exchange between Taiwan and France. It also fosters greater interaction and exchanges between the two countries, which is thought to be able to "transmit Kaohsiung's sunshine, smiles, and passion to every visitor."

Taipei and Paris are not the only cities that represent Taiwan and France, according to Franck Paris, director of the French Office in Taipei. He thinks an event representing Southern France in Kaohsiung, a significant port in southern Taiwan, would strengthen and enrich the relationship between the two sides.

The Kaohsiung city government hopes that hosting the event will deepen its understanding of French cities and create opportunities for exchange.

Chang Yen-ching, the director of the Department of Administrative and International Affairs Kaohsiung City Government, stated that Kaohsiung shares a warm climate and diverse culture with southern France. The city looks forward to deepening its understanding of French cities and fostering opportunities for exchange through the festival.
