TAICHUNG (TVBS News) — Following a random attack on the Taichung Metro on Tuesday (May 21), a long-haired man surnamed Hsu (許), who heroically intervened, has reported being safe after surgery and warned the public against a scam exploiting his bravery.

The incident, which saw a 20-year-old nursing student surnamed Hong (洪) suddenly assaulting passengers, has shocked the community and spotlighted the courageous actions of Hsu.

Bravery Amid Chaos

Hsu's valiant effort to stop the assailant during the chaos has garnered widespread admiration, making him a topic of conversation. Despite his injuries, he assured his well-wishers of his safety through social media, expressing gratitude for their concern but noting his inability to respond individually due to his busy schedule. However, his newfound fame has attracted the attention of fraudsters, who have begun exploiting his story for financial gain.

A Warning Against Scams

Scammers have been sending text messages pretending to be the "Taichung Metro long-haired man," claiming to have lost their wallet in the scuffle and urgently needing NT$50,000 for expenses. Hsu has publicly clarified that he is not in need of medical funds and urged the public to be cautious of strange messages requesting money transfers, highlighting the scam's exploitation of his act of bravery. This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of vigilance in the face of opportunistic fraud.
