TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Ministry of National Defense (MND) reported on Wednesday (May 22) that it detected 11 naval and coast guard vessels from the People's Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) and the China Coast Guard (CCG) operating around the Taiwan Strait from 6 a.m. Tuesday to 6 a.m. Wednesday.
Taiwan's Armed Forces (ROC Armed Forces) responded by deploying Navy vessels and coastal missile systems to closely monitor and address the situation, as stated in the MND's statement on social media.
Despite the naval presence, the MND noted a relative calm in the airspace. From 6 a.m. on May 20 to 6 a.m. on May 21, Chinese aircraft did not cross the median line of the Taiwan Strait or enter Taiwan's southwestern airspace.
