TAIPEI (TVBS News) — China's Taiwan Affairs Office underscored on Tuesday (July 2) evening that any attempts challenging the One China Principle would face punishment and inevitable failure, highlighting the ongoing tension between mainland China and Taiwan.

Since taking office in May, Taiwanese President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) has repeatedly emphasized that Taiwan and China do not belong to each other. Addressing this stance, Deputy Minister Liang Wen-chieh (梁文傑) of the Mainland Affairs Council (MAC, 陸委會) remarked on Monday that "not regarding the other side as a country is absurd."

In a press release, the Office Spokesperson Chen Bin-hua (陳斌華) stated, "MAC's remarks once again expose the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities' stubborn adherence to 'Taiwan independence' and continuous provocations."

Chen further asserted, "The legal fact that Taiwan is part of China is crystal clear. Although the two sides of the Taiwan Strait have not yet fully unified, China's sovereignty and territory have never been divided and will never be allowed to be divided."

"The status of Taiwan as part of China's territory has never changed and will never be allowed to change," he added.

He also warned that "any actions challenging the One China Principle and provoking compatriots across the Strait will face punishment and inevitable failure."
