SLOVAKIA (TVBS News) — Donoval, a key figure in the Taiwan-Slovakia cooperation program, stated on Hospodarske Noviny (HN) Thursday (July 4) that Taiwan's support has positioned Slovakia to significantly impact the country's semiconductor landscape and bolster its automotive sector.

Two weeks ago, the Industrial Technology Research Institute, the Slovak Academy of Sciences (SAS), and the Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava (STUBA) held a briefing to discuss the program's initial achievements. Industry, government, and academia participants voiced their support, emphasizing Slovakia's long-term benefits.

Donoval believes the rising importance of semiconductors globally makes Taiwan's assistance crucial for Slovakia. He noted that significant semiconductor companies like TSMC and Intel have invested in Europe, making it urgent for Slovakia to join the supply chain swiftly.

The cooperation program includes equipment, cleanroom facilities, talent training, and establishing semiconductor packaging and testing production lines to strengthen Slovakia's semiconductor ecosystem. This initiative aligns with Slovakia's national semiconductor strategy.

Taiwan and Slovakia are co-developing inverter technology for electric vehicles, complementing the recently passed European Chips Act, which supports EU member states in building semiconductor ecosystems. Donoval expressed gratitude to the Taiwanese government for its assistance in creating ecosystems in Europe and invited Taiwanese companies to join the supply chain, enhancing mutual business opportunities.
