TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Central Weather Administration (CWA, 中央氣象署) forecaster Hsieh Pei-yun (謝佩芸) warned on Tuesday (July 16) that Taiwan might experience a series of tropical depressions or typhoons starting this weekend. She emphasized that once a single typhoon forms, others could quickly follow.

Hsieh noted that a tropical depression in the South China Sea has weakened after moving into Vietnam, posing no threat to Taiwan. She explained that while the region has high moisture levels, these conditions are not expected to impact Taiwan this week.

The forecaster also highlighted the significant influence of the Pacific high-pressure system over Taiwan, which will persist until Saturday.

She added that the area south of the high-pressure system, stretching from the South China Sea to the eastern Philippines, remains a low-pressure zone where tropical systems could develop.

Hsieh predicted that after Sunday, the high-pressure system would shift northward, allowing moisture and low-pressure areas from the south to approach Taiwan. She reiterated that any tropical depressions or typhoons forming this weekend would likely impact Taiwan next week, differing from this week's weather patterns.

The CWA will continue to monitor the situation closely. Residents are advised to stay informed about potential weather developments as the weekend approaches.
