TAINAN (TVBS News) — The Tainan City Government's Public Health Bureau reported on Wednesday (July 17) the city's 11th imported dengue fever case this year. Officials confirmed the patient had traveled to Malaysia in early July and is currently receiving treatment.

The patient, who resides in Xinying District, traveled with their family to Malaysia's capital city Kuala Lumpur from July 7 to 9 to purchase goods. Symptoms, including fever, joint pain, and headache, appeared on July 14. The patient self-medicated with antipyretics before seeking medical attention on July 16, with subsequent hospital tests confirming dengue fever type 4.

The patient's primary activities occurred around their home in Xinying District, Shengli Village in Yongkang District, and Siaosimen Village in West Central District. Authorities have completed emergency chemical control measures and will enhance vector density surveys and breeding source elimination.

According to the Taiwan Centers for Disease Control (CDC), Taiwan has recorded 131 imported dengue fever cases this year. Most infections originated from countries such as Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, and the Maldives.

Local health officials urge residents to remain vigilant and take preventive measures to control mosquito populations and reduce the risk of further dengue transmission.
