TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Ministry of the Interior (MOI, 內政部) announced on Wednesday (July 17) that it will actively implement various initiatives to promote the rights of new immigrants following the passing of the "Basic Act of New Immigrants" (新住民基本法) the previous day.

Minister of the Interior Liu Shyh-fang (劉世芳) expressed gratitude to all political parties for their support in endorsing the new act. The law mandates the MOI establish a dedicated central-level agency to coordinate related affairs and provide language learning resources to eliminate barriers. It also stipulates that local governments must establish family service centers for new immigrants.

Liu highlighted that the law outlines the protection of new immigrants' rights, including employment, translation services, and media access. She stated that the key point of the new act is to expand the definition of new immigrants to include professional and skilled immigrants, in addition to marriage-based immigrants.

The law requires the government to provide services such as life adaptation counseling and employment rights protection. Liu emphasized that the central and local governments will review and amend various regulations and measures to create a more diverse and friendly environment for new immigrants.
