TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Typhoon Gaemi made landfall in Taiwan causing heavy rain and significant flooding including in Nantou County early Thursday (July 25). The storm's impact led to the Maoluo River (貓羅溪) water levels rising dramatically.

Water from the river flooded a nearby parking lot, submerging several vehicles. The water reached above the car doors, and even swept away several vehicles.

Typhoon Gaemi made landfall in Yilan County's Nan'ao Township (南澳) at midnight and moved offshore from Taoyuan City by 4 a.m. Thursday. Although the typhoon quickly passed, it brought heavy rain to the central and southern mountain regions.

Strong winds toppled roadside trees and walls in the Nantou area a day earlier, and accumulated rainfall in the mountains exceeded 600 millimeters in 24 hours, while flatland areas received over 300 millimeters.
