TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Central Weather Administration (CWA, 氣象署) issued high-temperature alerts for 12 counties and cities, including Taipei (台北市) and New Taipei (新北市), on Monday (Aug. 5). Meteorologists warn of clear, hot weather with localized temperatures reaching up to 37 degrees Celsius.

The CWA placed Taipei, New Taipei, Taichung (台中市), Changhua (彰化縣), Nantou (南投縣), Chiayi City (嘉義市), Tainan (台南市), and Kaohsiung (高雄市) under an orange alert, indicating a likelihood of three consecutive days with temperatures hitting 36 degrees Celsius.

Taoyuan (桃園市), Yunlin (雲林縣), Chiayi County (嘉義縣), and Pingtung (屏東縣) received a yellow alert, anticipating temperatures above 36 degrees Celsius, the weather administration added.

Daniel Wu (吳德榮), an adjunct associate professor at National Central University’s Department of Atmospheric Sciences, noted that sunny and hot conditions will persist from tomorrow through Sunday, with high temperatures remaining above 36 degrees Celsius.

Wu added that from Friday to Sunday, reduced moisture and lower instability will shrink the range of afternoon convection, affecting only some mountainous areas and a few lowland regions. Residents should stay hydrated and avoid prolonged outdoor activities during peak heat hours.
