TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's badminton men's duo clinched a gold medal at the Olympic Games on Sunday (Aug. 4). To celebrate, Kuomintang (KMT) Chairman Eric Chu (朱立倫) distributed 200 pieces of fried chicken at the KMT headquarters on Monday morning. Within 10 minutes, eager citizens had claimed all the chicken.

Chu announced that if boxer Lin Yu-ting (林郁婷) wins a gold medal, he will continue to distribute more prizes. He had previously announced the fried chicken giveaway on Facebook on Sunday, where KMT Taoyuan City Councilor Ling Tao (凌濤) also pledged to give away 100 cups of bubble tea.

Chu mentioned that watching the Sunday badminton match on TV was nerve-wracking, adding that when the pair won, Taiwan was in jubilation, and everyone was moved when the national flag anthem was played.

Chu emphasized the pride Taiwan feels for its athletes, including judoka Yang Yung-wei (楊勇緯) and badminton ace Tai Tzu-ying (戴資穎). He stated that they, along with other Team Taiwan athletes, are the pride of Taiwan.

Regarding Lin's recent match against a Bulgarian opponent, Chu expressed disappointment over the discriminatory behavior Lin faced after her victory. He urged everyone to support the athletes, hoping Lin can secure a gold medal.

With the Olympic Games ongoing, Taiwan's athletes continue to inspire national pride, and further celebrations may be on the horizon.
