TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Deputy Minister of Education Chang Liao Wan-chien (張廖萬堅) on Wednesday (Aug. 14) addressed the possibility of the government purchasing Olympic broadcast rights, stating, "Of course, it can be discussed."

Chang Liao made these remarks following the "Our Heroes! Team Taiwan" parade promotion conference held by the Presidential Office earlier that day. When asked about discussions on Olympic broadcast rights, he acknowledged that with four years until the next competition, the government would consider various opinions to determine the best course of action.

The nation's Satelite Television Broadcasting Association (衛星電視公會) issued a statement the previous day urging both the public and the government to review how to ensure convenient access to complete event broadcasts.

This call for action follows the nation’s heightened interest in sports, sparked by the Taiwan delegation’s success at the Olympic Games Paris 2024, which included two gold and five bronze medals.

The public's enthusiasm and focus on the accessibility of Olympic broadcasts have become central discussion points. As the government considers its options, citizens await further developments on how future broadcasts will be handled.
