TAIPEI (TVBS News) — François Chih-chung Wu (吳志中) officially assumed the role of Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs on Sunday (Aug. 18), ending his six-year tenure as Taiwan’s representative to France.

Premier Cho Jung-tai (卓榮泰) announced Wu's appointment in May, but Olympic preparations delayed his return to Taiwan.

After the Olympics, Wu handed over the representative role to former Civil Service Protection and Training Commission Minister Hao Pei-chih (郝培芝), whose appointment was ordered on July 18.

Wu expressed gratitude in a Facebook post, crediting achievements to the Taiwanese people, government policies, and support from the French government and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

During his tenure, Wu advanced Taiwan-France relations to new heights. Both houses of the French Parliament passed resolutions supporting Taiwan's participation in international organizations, and the number of members in the Senate's Taiwan Friendship Group reached a record high.

Wu's transition marks a significant step in Taiwan’s diplomatic efforts. Observers will watch how Hao Pei-chih continues to build on these successes and navigate the complexities of international diplomacy.
