LIMA, Peru (TVBS News) — Taiwanese officials recently represented the nation at the Peru Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) meetings, showcasing Taiwan's health, agriculture, and energy efforts.

From Aug. 13 to Aug. 19, Deputy Minister of Economic Affairs Chern-Chyi C.C. Chen (陳正祺), Deputy Minister of Health and Welfare Lin Ching-yi (林靜儀), and Deputy Minister of Agriculture Hu Jong-I (胡忠一) led delegations to various high-profile discussions.

Lin Ching-yi addressed the High-Level Meeting on Health and the Economy (HLMHE) on Aug. 18 in Lima. In her speech, she emphasized the importance of women's health, climate change, and primary healthcare.

On the same day, Hu Jong-I attended the Food Security Ministerial Meeting (FSMM) in Trujillo, where he shared Taiwan's policies on reducing food loss and waste with ministers and representatives from other economies. His insights aimed to foster collaboration on food security.

Chen highlighted Taiwan's achievements in clean, sustainable, and resilient energy transitions during the Energy Ministerial Meeting (EMM) on Aug. 15 in Lima. He showcased Taiwan's commitment to an inclusive energy future.

The high-level meetings concluded with a joint ministerial statement, expanding APEC's regional cooperation on gender and health, mental health, climate change impacts, and vaccine distribution. Peru, the host of this year's APEC meetings, has planned several Senior Officials' Meetings (SOM) and related events.

Looking ahead, the APEC Economic Leaders' Week is scheduled for Nov. 10 to Nov. 16 in Lima, where further discussions on economic and policy issues will take place, continuing the momentum from these recent meetings.
