TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Deputy Minister of Agriculture Hu Jong-I (胡忠一) shared Taiwan's experience in promoting the Food and Agricultural Education Act (食農教育法) at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Food Security Ministerial Meeting (FSMM) in Peru on Monday (Aug. 19).

Hu highlighted Taiwan's efforts in food education, emphasizing the importance of valuing food to minimize waste. He noted that the act's fundamental principles include practicing local food consumption, reducing food waste, and ensuring food security.

Taiwan has shown remarkable performance in food security. In 2023, the country organized the seminar "Reducing Food Loss and Waste by Strengthening Resilience of APEC Food System and Enhancing Digitalization and Innovative Technologies." Taiwan also plans to review the outcomes of APEC's related initiatives in 2025.

The Ministry of Agriculture (MOA, 農業部) reported that the APEC FSMM adopted a ministerial statement emphasizing the development of digital tools and innovative technologies. The statement calls for regional cooperation among APEC members to enhance food security by reducing food loss and waste.
