TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an (蔣萬安) announced on Thursday (Aug. 22) that this year's Shanghai-Taipei City Forum (台北上海雙城論壇) will take place in late September following his U.S. visit. The exact date remains undetermined.

Chiang will travel to the United States on Sept. 4, and the forum date will be finalized after his return. Speculation has arisen that the delay in confirming the forum’s date and the absence of a participant list from Shanghai may be due to heightened cross-strait tensions since President Lai Ching-te's administration took office.

Chiang emphasized the need for communication amid rising tensions, stating, "the more tense the situation, the more we need to communicate."

He assured that the Taipei City Government would continue to work with its counterparts, adhering to principles of equality, dignity, goodwill, and reciprocity.

As the forum's date approaches, observers will closely watch how the developments in cross-strait relations and the outcomes of the judicial investigations unfold.
