TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The semiconductor industry, a driving force behind Taiwan’s economy, is facing a slowdown in the second half of the year, the chairman of Etron (鈺創) claimed on Thursday (Sept. 5).

Nicky Lu (盧超群) cited economic uncertainty, ongoing geopolitical conflicts, and persistent shipping disruptions as key factors impacting the industry during the "Global Auto Chips Executive Summit" (全球汽車晶片高峰論壇) at the SEMICON Taiwan (國際半導體展).

Despite the anticipated slowdown, Lu remains optimistic about the market's semiconductor demand. He stated that new applications, including AI, continue to emerge, although the world is changing rapidly, and the industry needs to adapt to supply and demand.

Lu believes AI and other sectors could grow significantly in the second half of the year.

Lu also commented on the personal computer (PC) market, noting that some industry players are optimistic about the first quarter of next year. He mentioned that new products are entering the market, and results will become more apparent in October and November.
