TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Labor Minister Ho Pei-shan (何佩珊) announced on Friday (Sept. 6) that Taiwan and India will soon hold their first meeting to discuss the details of bringing Indian migrant workers to Taiwan.

Ho disclosed this information in an interview with Liberty Times Net (自由時報) released earlier that day. She revealed that Taiwan and India had signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on labor cooperation, hoping to introduce Indian migrant workers to fill labor shortages in various industries in Taiwan.

She added that Taiwan will invite Indian officials to discuss various measures. Opening Taiwan to Indian migrant workers involves gathering public opinion, planning the introduction details, and establishing bilateral administrative and legal procedures. The minister stated that these steps are already underway.

The Ministry of Labor (MOL, 勞動部) has planned an initial small-scale trial to introduce Indian migrant workers. The prosecution will prioritize companies with good management capabilities. The MOL also intends to establish a new direct hiring system and select quality intermediaries, implementing a dual-track system for the introduction.
