PENNSYLVANIA (TVBS News) — Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an (蔣萬安) returned to his alma mater, the University of Pennsylvania (UPenn), on Wednesday (Sept. 11), marking his first visit since graduating.

Chiang reminisced about his campus life 20 years ago, particularly recalling the times he and his wife prepared Taiwanese dishes such as three-cup chicken. He frequently traveled between New York and Philadelphia during those days, often cooking meals with his wife.

In an exclusive interview with TVBS News, Chiang recalled, “We went grocery shopping and made simple Taiwanese dishes, such as three-cup chicken and steamed eggs. Taiwanese food was a must.”

At a meeting with international students, a student asked Chiang about the possibility of raising study abroad loans. He replied that the issue would be considered comprehensively.

On the same day, with the U.S. election debate underway, Chiang emphasized the importance of Taiwan's chip production, noting that 92% of high-end chips are manufactured in Taiwan. He expressed a desire for ongoing international cooperation.

Chiang’s U.S. trip, which began on Sept. 4, included stops in New York, Boston, and Philadelphia. His schedule also featured a speech at Harvard University and a visit to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology to promote municipal exchanges and showcase Taipei on the global stage.
