TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan Railways Corporations (TR, 台鐵) released a statement Friday (Sept. 13) clarifying that the lack of legal regulations for awarding cash bonuses results in slow progress.
Therefore, Taiwan Railways decided to consult and follow regulations provided by the Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MOTC, 交通部), which authorized the company to provide gift voucher bonuses based on it.
Taiwan Railways emphasized that they recognize employees' hard work during holidays, and will coordinate with relevant units to possibly convert these vouchers into cash.
This statement comes after their decision to gift vouchers as bonuses during the Mid-Autumn Festival was received with strong backlash.
The Taiwan Railway Labor Union (TRLU, 台灣鐵路工會) threatened to strike after the corporation announced plans to issue Mid-Autumn Festival bonuses as vouchers instead of cash in a press release on Sept. 12.
Taiwan Railways will continue to negotiate with the TRLU to reach a consensus.
