TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Kuo-Kuang Motor Transport (國光客運) announced on Thursday (Sept. 19) plans to increase fares on 29 routes starting Oct. 3, with an average hike of 6%. In particular, the Taipei-Kaohsiung route will see the highest increase, rising by NT$36.

The Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MOTC, 交通部) approved the fare adjustment proposal in April. This marks the first fare change for national highway bus operators in 17 years. The MOTC's fare review committee approved the increase on April 12, allowing a maximum rise of 5% per passenger-kilometer for four-row seat buses and up to 19.5% for three-row seat buses.

Kuo-Kuang Motor Transport detailed on its website that the affected routes include the 1827 Keelung-Chaoma-Taichung, 1833 Taipei-Sun Moon Lake, 1836 Taipei-Xinying, 1860 Taoyuan Airport-Taichung, and 1838 Taipei-Kaohsiung.

The fare adjustments aim to address rising operational costs and ensure sustainable service quality. Passengers can expect the new rates to be reflected in ticket prices from early October, the company said.
