CHANGHUA (TVBS News) — Changhua County Government (彰化縣政府) announced on Tuesday (Oct. 29) its initiative to pioneer greenhouse gas audits and support businesses in transitioning to low-carbon operations. Officials aim to set an example by auditing the county office buildings' carbon footprint and obtaining third-party certification.

County Magistrate Wang Hui-mei (王惠美) emphasized the importance of this initiative, noting that most businesses in Changhua are export-oriented and face significant challenges in meeting the 2050 net-zero emissions target. She claimed that the county government had established a carbon reduction advisory team to assist enterprises in taking early action to achieve carbon reduction results.

The county government signed a collaboration agreement with the Metal Industries Research & Development Center (財團法人金屬工業研究發展中心) and nine prominent universities in central Taiwan. This partnership will form an advisory group to help businesses achieve low-carbon transformation goals.

The Department of Economic and Renewable Energy (經濟暨綠能發展處) highlighted that carbon reduction is now essential for business survival. Companies must address the net-zero pressure from the government and supply chains, with the first step being a thorough greenhouse gas audit. Officials hope their greenhouse gas audit efforts will lead by example and encourage local enterprises to undertake carbon reduction initiatives.
