TAICHUNG (TVBS News) — Taichung City Government Police Department (台中市警察局) reported issuing 17 advisory notices under the Disaster Prevention and Response Act (災害防救法) on Thursday (Oct. 31).

Typhoon Kong-rey lashed Taiwan, prompting hikers to defy closures in the Dakeng (大坑) scenic area.

In Taichung's coastal regions, Typhoon Kong-rey caused power outages, uprooted trees, and damaged traffic signals. However, the city center experienced minimal impact.

Taichung's Tourism and Travel Bureau (台中市觀光旅遊局) warned that repeat offenders could face fines of up to NT$250,000.

Mayor Lu Shiow-yen (盧秀燕) urged residents to remain vigilant and prioritize safety during typhoons.

The Taichung City Scenic Area Administration Office (臺中市風景區管理所) closed 14 hiking trails in the Dakeng scenic area with caution tape on Oct. 30 at 6 p.m. and dispatched personnel to monitor the situation.
