TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA, 外交部) on Tuesday (Nov. 26) highlighted two significant bilateral projects in Somaliland that could enhance cooperation, aiming to deepen its ties with Somaliland following the recent presidential election outcome.

The Waddani Party's leader, Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi, emerged victorious in the election results announced on Nov. 19. During his campaign, he assured that relations with Taiwan would remain unchanged upon his election.

Wang Wen-lin (王文麟), a counselor at the MOFA's Department of West Asian and African Affairs, extended heartfelt congratulations to Somaliland for successfully completing the presidential election and to Abdullahi for his victory.

The Taiwan Representative Office in Somaliland conveyed the government's congratulations to President-elect Abdullahi and expressed the hope of building on the strong relations established in recent years.

Wang noted that the representative office has a certain understanding of Abdullahi and maintains contact with the Waddani Party. Abdullahi has adopted a relatively moderate stance toward Somalia and hopes for international recognition of Somaliland.

Taiwan and Somaliland have collaborated in public health, information, agriculture, and education. Wang explained that Taiwan currently has two key projects in Somaliland: constructing the "Taiwan Avenue" (台灣大道) linking the airport and establishing a Taiwan medical center to improve public health. These projects will be implemented once the new government takes office, aiming to strengthen bilateral cooperation.
