TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Eastern winds will bring sporadic rain to Keelung's (基隆) north coast and Yilan (宜蘭) on Wednesday (Dec. 11). The greater Taipei (台北) mountain areas, Hualien (花蓮), and Taitung (台東) will experience increased cloud cover with isolated showers, according to the Central Weather Administration (CWA, 中央氣象署). Other regions will see partly cloudy to sunny skies. The northeast monsoon will intensify by evening, increasing moisture and raising the likelihood of rain in Taipei, the CWA added.
Temperatures across Taiwan will be cooler in the morning and evening, with lows between 15-18 degrees Celsius. Daytime highs will reach 24-26°C in the north and east, while central and southern regions will feel warmer at 27-28°C. Starting tomorrow, a gradual temperature drop will occur as the northeast monsoon strengthens, followed by a cold air mass moving south, leading to a significant chill over the weekend. Weather expert Lin Te-en (林得恩) noted that the cold air mass from the continent is strengthening and will impact Taiwan's weather by Saturday. He advised residents to stay warm and maintain their health.
Meteorologist Wu Der-rong (吳德榮) also warned of a frontal system moving south tomorrow, bringing localized rain to the north and east. He added that from Friday afternoon, colder air will descend, making the weather progressively colder, transitioning from wet and cold to dry and cold by Saturday afternoon. Experts urged residents should prepare for the cold snap this weekend and take necessary precautions to stay warm and healthy.
