TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taoyuan Metro Corporation (桃園大眾捷運公司) announced on Monday (Dec. 16) that the Airport MRT line will revert its fares to the original price starting Jan. 2, 2025, due to rising operational costs. The company will continue to offer a NT$5 discount on non-airport routes, while travelers using the Super Value Pass (超值定期票) or Taoyuan Pass (桃園市民卡) can enjoy further discounts.

The corporation advised TPASS commuters that they would remain unaffected by the fare adjustment. To transition their passes smoothly, it recommended travelers adopt a "pre-purchase and delay refund" (預先購買、延後退票) approach. To prevent congestion on the implementation day, Taoyuan Metro will open a pre-purchase for Super Value Passes, and process discounted refunds on Dec. 23.

Passengers can inquire about purchasing Super Value Passes at all Airport MRT line stations, excluding A20 Xingnan Station (興南站). Those who buy before Jan. 2, 2025, will not incur the NT$50 ticket issuance fee. Existing pass holders can process their refunds from Dec. 23, 2024, to June 30, 2025, without a handling fee, and the refund amount will be calculated based on unused days.

Taoyuan Metro encourages commuters and students to utilize the TPASS commuter monthly pass and the Super Value Pass. Taoyuan citizens traveling on the Airport MRT can benefit from a 30% discount by using the Taoyuan Pass. As the fare adjustments approach, passengers should plan accordingly to take advantage of the available discounts and pre-purchase options.
