TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Pegatron Group (和碩) Chairman Tung Tzu-hsien (童子賢) on Sunday (Jan. 5) discussed the potential impact of former U.S. President Donald Trump (川普) returning to the White House. Tung emphasized that Taiwan's collaboration with the U.S. in semiconductors and information technology would be more beneficial than harmful, considering all factors.
During the company's annual year-end banquet, Tung addressed concerns about Trump's previous demands for increased tariffs and military spending, which caused uncertainty in Taiwan. He noted that with accumulated experience, Trump would likely execute policies with more prudence and pragmatism in a second term.
Tung expressed optimism about Taiwan's future in the tech industry, despite global uncertainties. He confidently stated, "I believe Taiwan will be the winner," highlighting Taiwan's role as a key global partner in technology, from research to manufacturing.
During the election period, Trump's anti-immigration stance was evident, but Tung pointed out that Trump has recently shown openness to tech and skilled immigrants. Trump's proposal to grant work visas and residency to U.S. school graduates appeals to new talent studying in the States.
