TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Mainland Affairs Council (MAC, 大陸委員會,) announced Friday (Jan. 10) that Deputy Minister Shen Yu-chung (沈有忠) emphasized the importance of mutual support among democratic partners during a meeting with the Italian delegation on Thursday. The delegation, led by Marco Osnato, chairman of the Italian Chamber of Deputies' Finance Committee, expressed concern over peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region and aimed to strengthen the resilience and cooperation of democratic supply chains.

Shen noted that peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait and the region align with the aspirations of both sides of the strait and the international community. He also expressed gratitude to the Italian Chamber of Deputies' Foreign Affairs Committee for passing a pro-Taiwan resolution without objection last September, which supports Taiwan's participation in international organizations such as the World Health Organization (WHO, 世界衛生組織).

He reiterated the government's commitment to the "four persistences" (四個堅持) and "four non-changes" (四個不變), pledging to implement the action plan for the "Four pillars for peace and prosperity" (和平四大支柱) and urged the Chinese Communist Party to realistically acknowledge the Republic of China's objective existence.

The Italian parliamentary delegation visiting Taiwan from Jan. 8 to Jan. 11 includes Paola De Micheli, deputy president of the Trade and Tourism Committee, among others. They aim to bolster the resilience and cooperation of democratic supply chains and supports initiatives to help Taiwan overcome diplomatic isolation.
