TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Meteorologists have issued a warning on Tuesday (March 11) for a strong continental cold air mass expected to move south mid-March, potentially reaching cold surge levels with temperatures dropping below 10 degrees Celsius.

Wu Der-rong (吳德榮) noted that a warm air mass will continue affecting the region through Wednesday, bringing sunny and stable weather with temperatures exceeding 30 degrees Celsius and potential fog in western areas.

On Thursday and Friday, Wu indicated that a front will linger off the northern coast, maintaining the warm air mass over Taiwan. Although temperatures will slightly decrease, they will remain warm, with a chance of brief showers or thunderstorms in certain areas. Wu further mentioned that from Saturday through next week (March 16), the passage of a front will increase the likelihood of localized showers or thunderstorms.

Next Monday through Thursday, Wu forecasts clear and stable weather across Taiwan. However, cold air will move south starting late Saturday, causing temperatures to drop sharply by Sunday evening, approaching the threshold for a strong continental cold air mass.

Weather expert Lin Te-en (林得恩) emphasized that this cold air mass, expected around the weekend, could last over four days and potentially reach cold surge levels.

Residents should prepare for the upcoming cold snap by staying informed and taking necessary precautions. As the situation develops, updates from meteorologists will be crucial in ensuring public safety and readiness.
