TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan is experiencing warm weather on Wednesday (March 12), with temperatures reaching up to 31°C in the west, according to the Central Weather Administration (CWA, 氣象署). However, from Saturday night to next week, the CWA expects a stronger cold air mass will bring a significant temperature drop, with local showers or thunderstorms expected.

Weather expert Daniel Wu (吳德榮) warned of poor air quality in the western region and fog in the west and Kinmen-Matsu. He indicated that a front hovering near northern coastal areas might cause a slight temperature drop and local showers or thunderstorms on Thursday. He emphasized the potential for "severe weather" events, including lightning, strong winds, and sudden downpours.

By next week, a high-pressure system will dominate, bringing dry and cold conditions. Wu noted the possibility of temperatures hitting the "cold surge" standard, particularly in Taipei, where temperatures could fall to 10°C or lower. The lowest temperatures in lowland areas might reach around 5°C, but Wu cautioned that models are still adjusting, and further observation is necessary.

Residents should prepare for the upcoming cold snap and stay informed about weather updates to ensure safety during the anticipated severe weather conditions.
