TAIPEI (TVBS News) — An official from China's Taiwan Affairs Office (TAO) emphasized on Wednesday (March 12) the mainland's commitment to fostering cross-strait relations through innovative policy measures, noting that "enhancing systems and policies for economic and cultural exchanges across the Taiwan Strait" appears prominently in this year's Report On the Work Of the Government.
During a regular press conference, TAO spokesperson Chen Bin-hua (陳斌華) underscored the government's unwavering position on Taiwan, expressing both sincerity toward Taiwanese people and determination to advance unification. He detailed plans to streamline systems facilitating personnel exchanges and cross-sector cooperation, promising equal treatment for Taiwanese businesses and enterprises operating in mainland China to attract broader participation.
Chen reaffirmed that "peaceful unification and one country, two systems" remains the cornerstone approach to resolving the Taiwan issue. However, he issued a stark warning that mainland authorities would take decisive measures against provocations by Taiwan independence forces.
The report from China's National People's Congress championed peaceful development of cross-strait relations while reinforcing the government's steadfast adherence to the one-China principle and the "1992 consensus." It firmly opposed both Taiwan independence movements and external interference. Chen emphatically reiterated these positions throughout the interview.
