TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwanese boxing sensation Eva Wu (吳詩儀) delivered a commanding 5-0 victory over England's Sameenah Toussaint in the quarterfinals of the World Boxing Cup Astana 2025 on Thursday (July 3). The dominant performance secured Wu's advancement to the semifinals and guaranteed her at least a bronze medal in the prestigious tournament taking place in Kazakhstan.

Wu previously captured a bronze medal competing in the 60-kilogram category at the Paris Olympics before transitioning to the 57-kilogram division this year. Her impressive 2025 campaign includes a gold medal victory at the Strandja International Boxing Tournament in March and a silver medal finish at the Thailand Open in May. Wu demonstrated her exceptional offensive and defensive capabilities in the World Boxing Cup by defeating an Uzbek opponent 5-0 in the opening round.

Wu's quarterfinal performance showcased tactical brilliance as she earned unanimous 10-point scores from all five judges in the opening round. Her relentless aggression continued in the second round, employing sophisticated feints and counterattacks that again earned perfect scores from the judging panel. Wu's strategic defensive approach in the final round sealed her flawless 5-0 victory, with judges consistently awarding her maximum points throughout the entire contest.

Coach Ke Wen-ming (柯文明) commended Wu's exceptional tactical execution, highlighting her masterful ability to control fighting distance throughout the bout. The coach emphasized that Wu's growing intelligence and competitive maturity have resulted in remarkable improvements in both her ring stability and overall confidence. Taiwan dispatched seven athletes to compete in the World Boxing Cup, yet Wu remains the sole representative to reach the semifinal stage. ◼
