TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwanese swimming star Eddie Wang (王冠閎) captured a silver medal in the men's 200-meter butterfly final at the Rhine-Ruhr FISU World University Games, an international multi-sport event for university athletes, on Monday (July 21). Wang touched the wall at 1:55.85, missing gold by a mere 0.26 seconds behind American Jack Dahlgren who finished at 1:55.59, while another American, Mason Laur, secured bronze with a time of 1:56.50.
The swimmer had entered the competition with high expectations, aiming to secure Taiwan's first-ever gold medal in swimming at the Universiade, commonly known as the World University Games. Wang had previously earned silver in the same event at the Chengdu World University Games and advanced to Monday's finals with the top qualifying time. After the race, Wang expressed disappointment at falling short of the gold medal for Taiwan but vowed to use the setback as motivation for future competitions.
Looking ahead, Wang has already set his sights on capturing gold at the 2026 Nagoya Asian Games, a major regional multi-sport competition held every four years. In post-race comments, he expressed gratitude to his family and supporters who have stood behind his swimming career.
