TAIPEI (TVBS News) — A moderate earthquake rattled Taiwan's eastern waters Thursday (Aug. 7) at approximately 3:45 p.m. local time, sending tremors across northern Taiwan including the capital Taipei. The Central Weather Administration estimated the quake reached intensity level 3 or higher across multiple regions including Taipei, Keelung, New Taipei, Taoyuan, and Yilan County. Residents throughout these densely populated areas reported noticeable shaking during the afternoon seismic event, though authorities have not yet reported immediate damage or casualties from the earthquake.
