TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The National Central Library (國家圖書館), Taiwan's premier national library, will launch an extensive lecture series titled "Exploring the Library: Unveiling a Millennium of Book Collecting" (走入藏書樓──開箱藏書家的千年收藏) Friday (Aug. 30). The comprehensive educational program offers free lectures and hands-on workshops, providing the public with unprecedented opportunities to explore the fascinating history and rich cultural heritage of book collecting across centuries.
Fu Yueh-an (傅月庵), renowned host of Soyet Book (掃葉工房) a specialized literary publishing house, will inaugurate the series with an illuminating lecture examining the evolution of book collecting culture in the digital age. Fu will comprehensively explore how traditional book collecting practices have transformed through technological advancement, offering attendees extraordinary insights into the fascinating world of ancient texts and manuscripts. The distinguished series will showcase several leading experts in ancient document research, significantly enhancing both the intellectual depth and scholarly breadth of these cultural discussions.
The library has strategically invited Ya-hwei Hsu (許雅惠), distinguished professor from National Taiwan University (台灣大學), Taiwan's most prestigious academic institution, to expertly guide attendees through the intricate aesthetics and profound historical significance of traditional ink rubbing techniques. Cheng A-tsai (鄭阿財), esteemed retired professor from Nanhua University (南華大學), will provide comprehensive introductions to the extraordinary ancient treasures housed within the legendary Dunhuang cave library collections.
Tseng Chi-kang (曾紀剛), accomplished assistant researcher from the National Palace Museum (故宮博物院) Taiwan's premier cultural institution, will unveil the closely guarded secrets of the Qing dynasty's prestigious "Tianlu Linlang" royal collection. These distinguished scholarly experts will collectively provide invaluable insights into the remarkably rich tapestry of book collecting traditions and preservation methodologies spanning centuries. Chen I-liu (陳宜柳), accomplished host of YL Art Conservation Studio (藝流工作室), will expertly lead an engaging hands-on workshop teaching participants the intricate art of sewing traditional thread-bound books while recreating ancient bookbinding techniques. ◼
