TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Meteorologists are closely monitoring the potential formation of a typhoon within the next 24 hours, which has drawn significant attention to regional weather patterns. The Japan Meteorological Agency anticipates that this will be the 14th typhoon of the year, expected to complete its development by Friday (Aug. 29) at the earliest. The situation underscores the region's heightened alertness to evolving meteorological phenomena during the typhoon season.
Meteorologist Wu Der-romg (吳德榮), in a column for National Central University (NCU, 中央大學), highlighted the evolving tropical depression in the South China Sea, which has a 60% probability of developing into a typhoon by Saturday (Aug. 30). Wu noted the latest European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) simulation indicates the typhoon's trajectory will move west-northwest, mirroring Typhoon Kajiki, though with less intensity.
According to Wu's analysis, the potential typhoon poses no imminent threat to Taiwan. He further explained that another tropical system might develop far east of Taiwan next week, suggesting the Northwest Pacific continues to experience conditions conducive to typhoon formation.
