TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's Executive Yuan (行政院) released unprecedented photos of Taiwan-U.S. (台美) meetings on Friday (Aug. 29), directly refuting false accusations regarding tariff negotiations. The Taiwan-U.S. Economic and Trade Working Group clarified that both nations have conducted four face-to-face meetings since negotiations commenced, all hosted at the Office of the United States Trade Representative.
Meeting photos were released to the public for the first time after mutual agreement to ensure transparency. The trade group strongly condemned fabricated statements, urging media outlets to verify information thoroughly to prevent the spread of false rumors. This unprecedented step demonstrates both nations' commitment to factual reporting and public accountability in international negotiations.
The meetings mandated mutual agreement on participants, including chief negotiators, deputy negotiators, and legal advisors. Taiwan's representative to the U.S., Alexander Yui (俞大㵢), participated in these discussions. Deputy Premier Cheng Li-chun (鄭麗君) met with U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer to address critical issues and track negotiation progress, while also conferring with U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick during her visit to discuss Section 232 and supply chain cooperation.
Yang Jen-ni (楊珍妮) participated in preliminary discussions with U.S. negotiators, while technical officials conducted consultations outside the venue. The trade group emphasized that international trade negotiations typically remain confidential until details are finalized, supported by signed confidentiality agreements. Following each meeting, both sides issued comprehensive press releases detailing team members, meeting duration, topic scope, and meeting circumstances to maintain transparency. ◼
