Meteorologist Wu Der-romg (吳德榮) attributed these conditions to Pacific high pressure influence, forecasting continued weather stability through Saturday (Sept. 13). The shifting atmospheric patterns marked a typical late summer weather cycle across the island nation.
The European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) predicted cloudy to sunny conditions Tuesday and Wednesday (Sept. 10), with temperatures climbing to 35 to 36 degrees Celsius (95 to 97°F). Weather expert Lin De-en (林得恩) posted on Facebook that Pacific high pressure systems would sustain these sweltering conditions through Sunday (Sept. 14). Temperatures were expected to consistently range between 33 and 36 degrees Celsius (91 to 97°F) during this extended hot spell.
Lin warned that weak winds near the Pacific high pressure center could cause pollution accumulation across Taiwan's urban areas. The meteorologist reassured residents that descending air currents typically prevent long-term pollutant buildup near ground level. Strong sunlight might trigger photochemical reactions during peak afternoon hours, potentially elevating ozone levels and compromising Taiwan's air quality standards. ◼
