TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The New York Yankees celebrated their inaugural Taiwanese Heritage Day Thursday (Sept. 11), attracting thousands of enthusiastic Taiwanese participants in a sold-out demonstration of diaspora unity. Eugenia Henry (白越珠), president of the Taiwanese Chambers of Commerce of North America (TCCNA, 北美洲台灣商會聯合總會), a business association representing Taiwanese entrepreneurs across North America, praised the event's rapid ticket sales as powerful evidence of cohesion among overseas Taiwanese communities.

Henry emphasized the remarkable speed of ticket sales as compelling evidence of Taiwanese community solidarity while expressing deep gratitude to the Yankees organization and event supporters. The Yankees presented exclusive commemorative jerseys and caps to Taiwanese fans attending the historic celebration. Joey Chiang (江俊霖), representing the Overseas Community Affairs Council (OCAC, 僑委會), Taiwan's government agency for diaspora relations, donated precious signed memorabilia from baseball legend Wang Chien-ming (王建民) to strengthen emotional connections to Taiwanese baseball heritage.

Chiang emphasized sports' powerful role as national diplomacy, utilizing the signed memorabilia to honor Wang's enduring legacy while inspiring younger generations to pursue their athletic dreams. Presidential advisor Timothy Chuang (莊振輝) observed Taiwan's dramatically increased visibility in international sports, tracing the evolution from Wang's pioneering era to Thursday's groundbreaking Taiwanese Heritage Day celebration. Chuang encouraged expanded future collaborations between business organizations and community groups to promote similar cultural events and foster youth baseball development programs.

The Yankees organization and the Taiwanese Chambers of Commerce have launched comprehensive discussions exploring ambitious multi-year thematic collaborations, dedicated cultural celebration weeks, and enhanced community engagement initiatives. These strategic conversations aim to significantly extend and expand their successful partnership opportunities beyond the inaugural heritage day celebration. The proposed collaborations represent a sustained commitment to strengthening cultural bridges between Taiwan's diaspora community and American professional baseball. ◼
