TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's stock market experienced a volatile trading session Monday (Sept. 15), opening higher before ultimately closing in negative territory amid global economic uncertainties. The benchmark index surged initially to 25,519 points, approaching its intraday peak of 25,541 points, before reversing course dramatically and plummeting 190 points to a session low of 25,284 points. The market recovered from its worst levels, closing down 117.48 points at 25,357.16, representing a 0.46% decline for the day.

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC, 台積電) shares declined NT$5 (around US$0.17) to close at NT$1,255 (around US$41.42), marking a 0.4% decrease for the chipmaking giant. Hon Hai Technology Group, Taiwan's largest electronics manufacturer, (鴻海) experienced a drop exceeding 0.69%, while Delta Electronics (台達電) fell by a modest 0.12%. MediaTek (聯發科) ended the trading session unchanged, and Largan Precision (大立光) bucked the downward trend, rising more than 1%.

Micron Technology's (美光) impressive performance created positive momentum for Taiwan's DRAM memory chip manufacturers throughout the trading session. Nanya Technology (南亞科) surged to hit the daily limit up, the maximum allowable price increase, while Winbond Electronics (華邦電) posted substantial gains exceeding 5%. The strong performance across these semiconductor companies signaled robust investor confidence and interest in Taiwan's memory chip manufacturing sector.

The printed circuit board sector experienced significant declining momentum, with major industry players posting widespread losses across the board. Key stocks including Fulltech Fiber Glass (富喬), Gold Circuit Electronics (金像電), Tripod Technology (健鼎), Dynamic Holding (定穎), and Glotech Industrial (德宏) all closed firmly in negative territory. Co-Tech Development (金居) faced the most severe setback, plummeting to the daily limit down, the maximum allowable price decline.

Defense-related drone stocks experienced a sharp downturn, with Thunder Tiger (雷虎) plummeting over 8% and Evergreen Aviation Technologies (長榮航太) declining more than 5% during the session. Coretronic (中光電) also retreated significantly, while shipbuilding companies CSBC (台船) and Lungteh Shipbuilding (龍德造船) both tumbled over 8%. Aerospace Industrial Development Corp. (漢翔) bucked the prevailing negative trend, managing to close in positive territory despite sector-wide weakness. ◼ (At time of reporting, US$1 equals approximately NT$30.300)
