Meteorologist Lin Chia-kai (林嘉愷) warned on Facebook that a typhoon might form near Guam on Sept. 20 and directly approach Taiwan by Sept. 23 and 24. The WeatherRisk (天氣風險) forecasting service highlighted the possibility of a tropical depression or typhoon developing east of the Philippines over the weekend, though significant meteorological uncertainties remain.
Weather experts predicted the potential typhoon, characterized as both potentially strong and large by U.S. meteorological models, could strike Taiwan next week with significant impact. The weather-focused Facebook page Look Weather (觀氣象看天氣) emphasized the critical need for vigilance regarding a developing low-pressure system in the Bashi Channel on Sept. 18, which threatens to bring substantial rainfall to Taiwan's southeastern and southern regions. The WeatherRisk page cautioned that the low-pressure precursor system has not yet emerged, leaving both its formation timing and trajectory highly uncertain.
Look Weather meteorologists identified potential development of a dangerous low-pressure system northwest of Guam, with U.S. forecasting models predicting its trajectory toward Taiwan's northeastern waters. European meteorological models present conflicting projections, forecasting the system moving toward the northeastern waters of Luzon, while artificial intelligence models suggest movement north of the Bashi Channel. Look Weather issued stark warnings that exceptionally warm sea surface temperatures southeast of Taiwan create ideal conditions for rapid intensification into a strong and large typhoon. ◼
