TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's Central Weather Administration (CWA, 中央氣象署) warned of intensifying weather patterns Wednesday (Sept. 17), with increased atmospheric moisture triggering scattered showers across eastern Taiwan and the Hengchun (恆春) Peninsula. Southeastern regions and the peninsula face the prospect of heavier rainfall, while outlying islands including Penghu, Kinmen, and Matsu will experience predominantly cloudy conditions. The weather shift marks the beginning of an extended period of unstable atmospheric conditions across the island.
A southern cloud system will advance northward from Thursday (Sept. 18) to Saturday (Sept. 20), generating unstable weather conditions and brief periods of heavy rainfall throughout Taiwan. Taitung and the Hengchun Peninsula will bear the brunt of extensive, continuous showers and thunderstorms during this period. Moisture levels will gradually decrease Sunday (Sept. 21) and Monday (Sept. 22), though windward eastern areas and the Hengchun Peninsula may still experience brief scattered showers, while other regions enjoy partly cloudy to sunny conditions with isolated afternoon thunderstorms.
The CWA issued warnings of a high probability of temperatures reaching 37 degrees Celsius (98.6°F) in Greater Taipei and Taoyuan over the next two days. Weather officials strongly advise residents to take protective measures against sun exposure and maintain proper hydration to prevent heat-related health complications. Temperature forecasts indicate overnight lows between 25 and 27 degrees Celsius (77-80.6°F) for Taiwan, Penghu, Kinmen, and Matsu, with daytime highs ranging from 32 to 37 degrees Celsius (89.6-98.6°F) depending on regional conditions. ◼
