TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an (蔣萬安) reported 87% completion of the Xinyi Line East Extension Thursday (Sept. 18). The mayor inspected dynamic testing during a journey from Xiangshan Station (象山站) to Guangci/Fengtian Temple metro station (廣慈/奉天宮站). Construction progress continues on schedule for the challenging underground extension project.
The Department of Rapid Transit Systems (DORT, 捷運工程局) confirmed the extension connects Xiangshan Station eastward to Guangci Boai Park (廣慈博愛園區). Construction teams completed tunnels, rail tracks, and main station structures for the project. Mayor Chiang called it the most challenging MRT project in history due to its depth equivalent to 10 underground floors and double-sized station capacity.
Chiang emphasized the city government's commitment to completing the project by year-end and opening it in the first quarter of 2026. The mayor stated the team would maintain a steady approach to achieve these ambitious timeline goals.
