TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan Power Co. (Taipower, 台電公司) secured emergency electricity Thursday (Sept. 18) after the Taipei Feitsui Reservoir Administration (FRA, 翡翠水庫管理局) extended hydroelectric generation to 15 hours. The emergency response followed a malfunction at the Linkou Power Plant (林口發電廠), with the reservoir supplying an additional 280,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity. The emergency power supply provided enough electricity for 24,000 households during the crisis.
Administration officials highlighted the agility of the Feitsui Reservoir (翡翠水庫) hydroelectric plant in rapidly increasing power output. Lin Yu-i (林裕益), the administration's director, emphasized the flexibility of hydropower dispatch systems. Weather conditions do not affect hydroelectric operations, enabling officials to provide timely emergency power support during grid failures.
Feitsui Reservoir serves dual functions by ensuring stable water supply while providing emergency power benefits. Annual hydroelectric generation reduces carbon emissions by 95,000 metric tons, equivalent to carbon absorption of approximately 370 Daan Forest Parks (大安森林公園). Administration officials emphasized ongoing efforts to enhance hydroelectric efficiency and contribute to Taiwan's environmental protection goals. ◼
